After a cramped day in office... Yes! All (15 of us) sat in one conference room for the whole day... We are moving to a different building.. and hence this "adjustment" for a day till the facilities moved all our stuff...
I don't have anything else in my office.. I carry around my laptop everywhere.. But I am amazed at stuff people have here in their office.. one guy has 7 boxes of stuff to be moved.. No! Nothing "office" stuff...;-) Photographs, A small fan, Some hazar pens, Letter pads (I wonder who uses them these days with all the e-mail, g-mail mafia!)
Anyway, all that aside, Ride back to home.. Friday evening.. heavy traffic... 5 mins ride becomes 15 mins... Car Radio is blasting off with "Mitwa...mitwa..." (I am very very very eagerly waiting for that movie.. :D :D)
Song over, RJ starts of with the "billion dollar" question...

Song over, RJ starts of with the "billion dollar" question...
"When you come to a crossroad in life where you
have to choose between your soulmate and a billion dollars, which will you
choose?"
I expected everybody to shout and say "Soul Mate"... after all atleast that's what people "say" right? But no! I was in for surprise.. 1 in 5 said "1 Billion dollars"!!!
I will write the merits and de-merits of both, will you help me choose?
SOUL MATE
For:
- Life is made. You will live happily ever after. (Atleast that's how it's supposed to be theoretically).
- Not everybody is lucky enough to get their soul mates, so when you have yours don't let them go!
- He/she will be with you during your times of ups and downs
- You can "talk" your heart out to your soul mate.
Not For (I will not say "against"):
- How will you know who is your soul mate?
- Ok First of all... "define" soul mate, please!
- Money buys you food and shelter.
- All said and done, nobody can live happily without money!
1 BILLION DOLLARS
For:
- It is a LOT of money!
- You can "own" whatever you want... just name it you will have it!
- You can roam around the whole world.. how many ever times you want to.
- Whatever materialistic things you need... you can get it without having to think "can I afford this?"
Against (Here I will say becasue somebody(not me though!) said "Money is bad!"):
- You cannot "talk" to your money.. nopes you can't talk to it.. you can make others talk with it though!
- You will have more enemies than friends if you have so much of money.
- Even, friends will be after your money and not YOU.
K that's all the inputs from me.. what do you guys and gals say? Go ahead shoot!

I was planning for best of both.. but Mittal's daughter got married! :(
on a serious note, let me add some confusion: having/not having money is like black-n-white.. but getting a soulmate has its grey areas.. for instance how can one be sure this particular person is "the soulmate".. I mean when is there a stage where one says I cant get a better person.. what if somebody better is somewhere else? when does the quest stop? When does the realisation come, and the greediness stop? It would be great if any (specifically females) answer this, would help me understand the other side. I shall answer later. :) phew! over-n-out.
@pavan: hello! you were supposed to help me choose :-P
But this is exactly what I am asking... How would you know that he/she is your soul mate...
Can some enlightened soul define the characteristics of a soul mate?
[prakash] you forgot the baap of all: "he/she would walk about 20 steps, turn slightly back, and then give a smile" :D
[shark] ok doesnt age-factor play a major role? the # of characteristics one intends to see in "perfect soulmate" (an oxymoron) keep changing (decreasing) with age.. what say?
@prakash: You forgot that important question from SRK.."Kya who mereliye ek board leke khadi hoogi...jise dekhte hi main pehechaan loonga..:)"
@pavan: on a serious note.. I don't think anybody is born as your soul mate... Unless somebody "adjusts/modifies" atleast a little bit... then the whole purpose is lost right?
Pavan asked exactly the same question, I have heard from many guys. The greediness that may be there is someone better out there for me. Humans in general are greedy but Men seem to be greedier. ;)
[shark] thats why I said it is an oxymoron.. I aint escaping from helping you/me/others choose b/w the two choices you put forward.. but just clearning some clouds as soulmate option has to be understood deeply unlike money, which brings ony 2 reactions : wow or hmmn
actually if you were comfi.. could you throw some insight on the soulmate option from your perspective? (after seeing references, I had to.. :)
[hardu] I am not offended with that :) what you said might be true.. but isnt it being practical than repenting later for the rest of life? I am just evaluating the option.. when one thinks/weighs options about career (and other important decisions), how is this any different? and this is about a person whom we have to accept as he/she is.. unlike career/children whom we can mould
[did I go off-track? blame the slow Sunday]
@hardu: I always thought women are greedy.. be it for clothes or jewels.. But looks like men have overtahen us in this case(for a change..;-))
@pavan: If you are talking about my bf... you have to wait for that post.. .it's on it;s way..:)
And on hardu's point... you have to stop at some point right.. you can't forever be searching for "better options"!
But once you stop, that does not mean you have found your soul mate... so there it goes again!
Pavan: I don't believe in anything like a "soulmate". You find a mate and then both of you make some adjustments and compromises to live together. If one is waiting for their "soulmate", they will continue to wait. You have to draw a line somewhere and be happy with whatever you have chosen. No person can be perfect. Neither are you perfect nor me. So, one has to adjust and accept it. The sooner one realizes it, the better it is.
[hardu] now you are getting to the point. basically, I think there are 3 kinds of people: group I with whom you can never get along, group II with whom you have to do lots of compromises and could just stay alive, and it is the third group that everybody is hunting for (the common-grounds of these). As you said one has to stop the quest and chose someone "at some point".. my question all this while is (or as even Shark was asking and Prakash mockingly got the point) is how does one know that point has come.. do I just get up today and say.. ok the girl I like the most today would be my soulmate (if things work out).. and where do I draw the borders?
sadly it is kind of that way.. if one is 25+, unmarried and that is a threshold as society perceives.. and things get dictated that way..
Pavan: You still did not get my point. I said that there is nothing like he/she is the one for me. One just has to think " Alright, I will have to make all these adjustments and compromises. Am I ready for that". And if you think you are OK with those adjustments and may be somemore which will apear after commitment, then you go ahead. Whereas if you feel that these are a little too many compromises to make, then you decide to wait.
If you decide on someone and for exmaple have to make 10 known compromises and decide you are OK with it then its fine. Then it does not matter anymore to sit and think what if I have found someone with whom I would have only had to make 8 compromises. There is no thinking back.
Also, ofcourse these 10 wil lonly be the ones visible at this point of time there may be 10 others which come up.
It is always better to look at the positive things in a person and decide if you would like those in your partner and then it will not matter if there are few things which you don't like. Then one doesn't mind making a few compromises or even if it becomes a little more.
Money buys power. Power has this irresistable magnetism, Power is sexy....Magnetism+Sexiness gets soulmate...I choose money.....but if I have to choose someone who has billion Dollars as a soulmate...then shuks thats bad!!!
@Pavan: You are asking for a point to stop.
@hardu: You are saying just stop somewhere and accept the fact that that's all I can get...
@GI: why is that bad???? you get 1 billion dollars and a soulmate.. what more could you ask for!
I was thinking the other way. If I get 1 billion Dollars I can choose the soulmate. But To accept someone as soulmate just coz he has billion dollars souns stupid...I need money so I get power like I said before. With power I gain magnetism. Then I become irresisteble and sexy and my soulmate will find me :)
@GI: Le.. athi aase aaythu :P
quoting GI: "..and my soulmate will find me.."
you could have a reality show filtering all those guys.. 1 bln isnt a small amount ;-)
Very true Pavan,
and I can increase the money by this show with all those ads. U R brilliant :) and i cant help being smart
One way of looking at it is that with a billion dollars you can still sincerely look for a soul mate but vice versa may not be possible. This reminds of a movie called "Indecent proposal" where the protgonist is actually asked to make such a choice. I will not give the answer here-watch the movie if you haven't already.
@hiren: There is no option of choosing another after you have one here... My question is, if at any given point in life you have an option to choose either Billion Dollars or SOul Mate... what will you choose? You can have only ONE!
@prakash: answer my question.. don't add to the confusion.. we are all enough confused already :P
Mehmood had foreseen such a post and sang the famous song, *clears throat* "..the whole thing is that ke bhayya sabse bada rupayya.."
@prakash: Nobody questioned our capabilities here... It's just that we are made an offer to choose...
Well, I guess I have made my choice, 1 BILLION DOLLARS!!!
Atleast I can be sure that it is infact 1 BILLION DOLLARS... and I can do whatever with it... muhahahaha...
Soul mate.. who knows what/how to get one!
P... Don't kill me...:D This is only "if" I get 1 BILLION DOLLARS... till then I am all yours..;-))))
@prakash : just to name a few...
1. MERCEDES BENZ - CLK Convertible
2. A big bunglaw just next to SRKs house
3. Atleast 200 pairs of "NEW DESIGNER" clothes
4. 50 pairs of footwear
5. A nice home theator system
6. A big library of all authentic books.. no 80rs pirated versions!
7. All new DVDs of ALL SRK Movies..
Oh the list goes on...
I think finally that 1 BILLION dollars will not be enough.. and I will become the poor old programmer again...;-)
@prakash: who said I will be alone? I might/mightnot have a soulmate... but I will have a mate.. and friends.. parents.. relatives etc..
And truly speaking, I would rather enjoy all this alone.. I wouldn't let anyone else drive my merc, SRK movies.. why do I even need anyone else with me when I am with "him"..;-)! Nobody else can wear my clothes and my shoes... they are all tailor made for me..:D
Excellent thought of writing this post. Very practical & Very thoughtful...
Nice way of putting across the ideas, I am so impressed.
About soulmate & money, I think lot of people have spoken about it...
