Media....... what's your idea?

Few days back.. one of our former ministers.. Mr.Pramod Mahajan was shot by his brother. No! he did not die... he had some minor injuries.
Now All my sympathies to him.. becasue his own brother shot at him (not that these kind of sibling enemity is new here!).
But the most amazing part is that almost "all" the news channels covered this for almost one full day! I mean come on.... so many people get killed in so many awful ways... they don't even deserve a mention in the local news paper... but this guy gets a full day coverage?
Oh My! you should have seen the "analysis".. the "reports"... the astrological predictions! the prayers! what not! grossly over exaggerated!!

I wonder where are we heading...:-/

It is not just in India, that is the case everywhere. The media guys are all set to make a mountain out of a mole hill as they have someing to talk about. CNN repeats the same information so many times that I have realized that if I watch CNN for an hour, I can reproduce it exactly in the same way with the exact wordings!

It's all for survival. The same reason you are in Dallas, is the same reason someone is putting up a story on the news network. The difference is in the area of influence (AoI). The AoI of your job might be your customer's users to the max whereas the AoI of the news reporter is almost everyone watching the news channel. And that's where the problem is. To survive, he needs to put up a story and make it sound "good". And to make it sound good they "Sensationalise" an issue. Their favourite game is to create villains and heroes out of our politicians. In TN, you have channels that are mouthpieces of the two dominant parties present. And if you were talking about media playing a role in leading India ahead then look not beyond TN!
The same logic applies to International channels, I guess!

But they will change. They ought to change. You cannot be on the path of "Adharma" and survive for long.

adi: what i do does not affect others.. so whether i choose to work in dallas or in yandalli... nobody really cares (excpet maybe my father will go mad..;-))

But then don't the media hold a responsibilty towards the society? Can they just telecast "stories"??? just for viewer points? and that too they are news channels... not some entertainment channels who need people's attention... news channels are supposed to "report" news as and how it is... no +s and no -s.. right?

I did not know how to respond to this post...Right now I am in a state of complete numbness...I dont care what they write in media...I read what I want to...I toss away what I dont want to....I dont build my opinion about things based on what has been written....But I understand u are looking at a bigger picture about media while I am looking at it in a nano perspective....

GI: You are intelligent enough to decide what you want to watch and what you don't want to..... Not everyone is like that.. so most of them get influenced by what's "shown" on TV...

Hardu's college mates used to think that we in India travel on elephants.. because all they show in NGC is tribal india...:(

P.S: I am a great admirer of NGC .. just took an example here...
